Millennium Activities

AUT MILLENNIUM CENTRE

Today at school was our turn and Room 17’s turn to go to the AUT Millennium Center on Wednesday 9th of March. We traveled there by bus. When we got there we were split up into groups. Room 17 was group 1 and 2, we were group 3 and 4.

First we went snorkeling with Diane then team building. We did the hula hoop circle then marshmallows and hot chocolate game. How you play is there are two groups of six. Each group has 5 marshmallows, the hard thing is that each group has to get to the other side of the court to win. The group who gets to the other side of the court first wins. But if one person in your group stands on the hot chocolate, the whole group has to start again at the beginning. The girls won the marshmallows and hot chocolate game.

Next we did the pipe and tennis ball  game. How you play was we all (girls and boys) get half a pipe then we connect all of our pipes together. After that, one person at the front rolls the ball on the pipes. After the ball has rolled on your pipe you go to the back of the line and connect your pipe to the last person in line. We kept doing this until we got to the other side of the court. We tried five times but we didn’t make it to the end of the court.

Then it was lunch time. We went down the hill to have lunch. Suddenly I slipped l fell down. Luckily I was not hurt or injured. We walked safely to lunch.

Dogs The Beach

It was a hot sunny day. I traveled to the  beach with my two dogs called honey and steam. We traveled by car. The dark coloured two dogs sit on the back seat. They look really cosy. I sat on the front warm seat it was warm from the sun beaming on it.  Finally we got to the hot relaxed Beach. I let my dogs out.

I see my dog's sprinting to the salty water. Crash! I can hear the waves starting to break . I quickly change into my togs to the sea I run. First I lay out my bright coloured towel . The water is crazy cold. I can see my dogs chasing to birds making footprints.

Millennium Center

Kayaking

Yesterday we went to the AUT Millennium Center. The  second activity we did was kayaking. We sat down. The Instructor said,  “Get a paddle. Don't hold it sideways”.  Then we learnt how to use the paddle.

Our instructor’s name was Dawn. We learnt how to capsize. I did it all by myself. Soon it was time to learn how to really kayak. First we were launched like a rocket. I wasn't very good at first but then I got good at it. Raymond’s dad could push us very far.  Then we stopped. When I stopped Kiralee crashed into me. Then I put my paddle back. I think it was fun at the Millennium center.

Kayaking

The AUT Millennium Center

Yesterday Room 8 and Room 17 went to the AUT Millennium center. We did Team building, Snorkeling, Water safety and Kayaking. I liked  kayaking the most so that's what I'm going to  talk about.

First we put our Life jackets on. Then we got some paddles. We stood by the pool and our instructor taught us how to use the paddles.  We practised and practised until we got It! Yay!

We went into some kayaks and had some fun. I did capsizing. I did not like it. Jerry, Aayush and I bumped into each other. It was fun. I liked it.

Des Hunt

On Monday Des Hunt a New Zealand author talked to the Year 4 students in the hall. He used science as a way of demonstrating the forces involved in stories.
The principle of attraction and repulsion.

Des used his ray gun to make some magic.

Parts Of Speech

Today we looked at verbs, adjectives and nouns as parts of speech and wrote some simple sentences.

We chose one of our sentences to publish and illustrate with vivid scribble art. Come and have a look in our classroom.

Yesterday at school we traveled on a bus to AUT  Millennium center. Oh, before I forget, my name is Amy. My best friends are Jasmine, Isabelle,Kathy and Louisa. Jasmine was in my group. Her Mum was there too. Her mum’s name is Rachel.

When I got on the bus I was sitting with Jasmine. Behind us were Reuben and Daniel. They are twins. The time went slowly then when I finished saying that we got to the Millennium centre.

First my group did snorkeling. Then it was team building and then it my favourite part. It was LUNCH TIME!  After lunch we did water safety and this was another favourite thing.

Kayaking! First we practised how to hold the paddle then I hopped in a kayak and Shavaun’s mum held the front of the of the kayak. I rocked to the to the right and to the left, wobble wobble and  wobble again. Blop, in I went. My group was Group 3. After that we got changed and our class and Room 17 hopped on the bus and we went back to school.

Millennium Day

On Wednesday we went on a trip to the AUT Millennium Center on a bus. I was next to Caitlin and we were able to fit three people on the seat. The 3rd one was Sienna. She was next to Caitlin. I was starving like a  hungry dog. We had to go in the city and a bit past too.

When we got there we had to get into our groups.   I was in group 4  which was the best team. Room 17 came with us. The first instructor  we had  was  Bridget. We listened  to our instructor. The other activity we did was kayaking. We  went  round  in  circles  and fell  out  of the kayaks. It  was  fun.

             Snorkeling

Rooms 8 and 17 went to the AUT Millennium Centre on Wednesday 9 of March 2016. My group was group 4. We did some snorkeling.

First we had to listen to our instructor, Diane. Next we got our life jackets on, then our flippers and snorkeling masks. After that we hopped in the water. It was deep. Finally we got to snorkel. I went first. I put my head in the water and kicked with the flippers on my feet. We didn’t do the whole length but we did a little bit.

Then we went in pairs. I went with Nicole. We did the same amount as we did in single person. When everyone had gone in pairs we hopped out and took our flippers, mask and snorkel off and went to another activity.

Where are we?

We are learning about basic NZ geography in our class.  One way of testing how well we know about NZ is this group activity of putting place names on a map. Ask your child about it.
